Adrian Younge is Making Mischief

When you can add Snoop Dogg (aka Snoop Lion) to your track you know it must be good. Souls of Mischief and Adrian Younge are about to drop a new album on August 29th releases on Linear Labs. The album also features Busta Rhymes and Ali Shaheed Muhammad. This old school production may be what is needed to keep the Hip Hop movement in a positive direction. Check out the single “There Is Only Now.”

See-I – Real Steel

The boys are back! The long-awaited follow-up to See-I’s epic debut al- bum is coming into view and “Real Steel” is our first taste of what looks to be a feast for fans of reggae, funk and soul. This first single sees the brothers Steele applying their trademark lyrical fire to some vintage Dancehall Reggae riddems. Drawing from the lessons that hardened them in childhood Rootz & Zeebo throw down the gauntlet calling out the suckas and haters foolish enough to try to claim their crown.

Label bosses Fort Knox Five have stepped in to deliver a bass-heavy remix that promises to be a staple of Dancehall and Reggae enthusiasts worldwide. A true dancefloor monster that DJs will love to drop! Instrumentals of both tracks are also included, rounding out the package.

Building on the success of their 2011 debut Long-Player and subsequent smash remix compilation of 2012, we find the See-I massive at the peak of their form in 2013 with a new album set to drop next year. Meanwhile the See-I band (featuring Rootz, Zeebo, Rob Myers, Ashish Vyas, Frank Mitchell and Jeff Franca of the Thievery Corporation Live Band) has been keeping sharp by continually tearing it up on the road, as well as helming the Washington DC institution that is Reggae Wednesdays at the Eighteenth Street Lounge.

Wiley – “F*#k It”

In inimitable style, Wiley drops one of the best songs he’s made in 2013 just in time for Christmas. Fuck It is a cracker and a half, with trap-meets-Eskibeat production from Deeco that sounds like it’s arrived in advance from 2014.

Wiley melts the winter ice with pure vocal fire, and turns in one of his best performances of late. Fuck It proves once again that there is no better rapper from the UK, and isn’t likely to be one any time soon. Long live Grime’s very own Santa.

Zion I – Masters Of Ceremony EP + Tour Dates

This duo of genre-bender pride has made a name for itself on the Bay Area scene by successfully mixing spiritualism and hip-hop. Oakland’s MC Zumbi and DJ/producer Amp Live blend hip-hop and trip-hop beats with lyrics focused on a message of unity, hope, and spiritual awareness. After a couple of indie hits, the duo slowly made inroads while opening for rap royalty like De La Soul, Rakim, and Run-D.M.C. Their debut album, Mind Over Matter, was released in May of 2000 and features collaborations with fellow Bay Area rappers Rasco, Planet Asia, and the Grouch. Although Zion I operates out of Berkeley, the group was originally formed in Atlanta, making their music difficult to classify as strictly West Coast hip-hop. Their musical style makes them even harder to define. With a style that borrows from hip-hop, trance, drum’n’bass, and reggae, Zion I’s style is equally mystical and mystifying.

Grieves – “Shreds”

Grieves, returns to deliver his fourth studio album, Winter & The Wolves. The insatiable, devil-may-care MC is well known for his meticulous exploration of life, love and loss, through a unique medley of hip-hop and soulful music. Together with B. Lewis, Grieves created 14 new tracks, combining organic pianos and guitars with boisterous synthesizers, to paint a colorful backdrop for his unique blend of rapping and singing.

A reflection on growth and maturity, Winter & The Wolves is about the instinctual fight for survival. It’s about suddenly finding that you’re all alone, facing countless hindrances to your livelihood, and having the courage to overcome them all. Tackling difficult obstacles like addiction and heartbreak, Grieves wrestles with the realization that life doesn’t get any easier as you get older. His signature combination of humor and gloom culminate to depict the struggle of a man’s inner turmoil between abandoning the dreams of his youth, and carving out a new path for himself in this world.

JusMoni x WD4D – Queen Feel

JusMoni x WD4D – “Queen Feel [Deluxe] **FREE DOWNLOAD** carepackage.bandcamp.com/album/queen-feel-deluxe

Queen Feel is the debut album from Seattle to Oakland transplant JusMoni and her producer / deejay WD4D.  A true collaborative effort, this album finds both artists pushing their boundaries and soaring to new heights. The EP was released at the end of last summer, garnering many great reviews and extensive radio support. The duo is now taking it a step further with the release of Queen Feel [Deluxe], packaging both the original album with 11 new remixes from a handful of talented producers. The 11 remixers are OCnotes, Sabzi, Kid Smpl, Benito, eLan, Keyboard Kid, The Flavr Blue, Suttikeeree, Introcut & WD4D, Kid P, and Benny Loco. Seattle’s OCnotes provides a beautiful, melancholy house version of “Take All Night,” while California heavy-hitters Benito and eLan each recreate “Here For You,” taking it to the next level of bass and beat music.  On the more mellow, night-bus vibe, Kid Smpl provides his signature “reverb-soaked-vocals-in-the-back” version of “Tattoo,” while Lil’ B’s producer, Keyboard Kid, takes it in the opposite direction with deep, hitting bass and bright synth work.  Everybody involved truly has a unique take on each remix.  Sure to hit home with a diverse crowd of listeners, this is a mission accomplished!

PRESS

NPR
“Jusmoni brings both wisdom and playfulness to her songs, and delivers them in a wily soprano reminiscent of Erykah Badu. Her recent work with producer WD4D has an experimental edge that’s tempered by her enthusiasm and warmth… ”

Seattle Weekly
“It thrives in spacious atmospherics: echoey vocal tracks; isolated drum sounds; you feel like you’re floating in an empty space, kept afloat only by the erotically-paced beat and waves of sexual tension.”

92 BPM
“Imagine Purity Rings meets TNGHT, meaning imagine the slow plodding cadence and vocals from Purity Rings and the bouncy elements heard coming out of the TNGHT camp… ”

The Stranger
Seattle vocalist JusMoni and producer WD4D have linked up for a great, stripped-down-to-its-birthday-suit slice of future R&B (it’s a distant relative of Ann Peebles’ “I Can’t Stand the Rain”)… Stellar work, everybody.”

Aceyalone – Leanin’ on Slick

Aceyalone, the legendary emcee and founding member of seminal rap groups Freestyle Fellowship, Haiku D’Etat and Project Blowed, has announced the follow-up to 2009’s Aceyalone & The Lonely Ones, titled Leanin’ on Slick. Since his formative days of battling at the Good Life Cafe circa 1989, Aceyalone is a forefather of the West Coast underground rap scene that spawned the emergence and success of groups like The Pharcyde, Jurassic 5 and his own Freestyle Fellowship, whose 1993 record Innercity Griots is an undeniable classic of the genre. Leanin’ moves on from the doo-wop tones of Lonely Ones in favor of jazz and funk influenced beats to support his signature tight rhymes and bouncing-ball flow. Out May 28 on Decon, the album features 13 dynamic tracks with frequent collaborator BIONIK, as well as Daniel Merriweather, Treasure Davis and, most notably, singer Cee Lo Green.
